FAQ
Cement Tiles
How are cement tiles made?
Cement tiles are individually handmade and created by highly skilled craftspeople and artisans who have learned and plied their trade for many years. Often, these skills are handed down from generation to generation.
Unlike ceramic tiles, cement tiles only use cement, natural mineral colour pigments, a mold and a hydraulic press. There is no clay or kiln involved. This means the process does not require the heat or energy of ceramic tile making.
Cement tiles are comprised of three layers, with two bottom layers of strong concrete, and a top layer featuring cement and natural colour pigments.
Will cement tiles suit my home/work for me?
Cement tiles can be used virtually anywhere. In bathrooms, kitchens, hallways and on all manner of floors; not to mention walls, backsplashes and patios – so pretty much wherever you’d like.
Unlike ceramic tiles, cement tiles do not have a gloss finish. Because of their natural colour pigmentation, cement tiles will develop over time and weather beautifully.
Each tile is handmade which means that no two tiles are ever completely the same, adding to their unique character. The distinctive matt finish will blend with infinite design ideas making them unendingly versatile. If you would prefer your tiles to have a more gloss-like finish, sealants can be applied to achieve this.
What are pre-polished and pre-sealed tiles?
Cement tiles are an investment that will last a lifetime. All of SABA Tile Company’s tiles come pre-polished and pre-sealed. This means that the product you’re investing in is both durable and of the highest quality possible.
What is pre-polishing
The process by which cement tiles are crafted leaves them with a naturally rough texture due to their cement and colour pigment composition. The pre-polishing process removes this rough layer. This then allows for easier installation, giving your tile a smoother feel, making it easier to clean and more comfortable to walk on.
What is pre-sealing
The pre-sealing process happens alongside pre-polishing. A sealer is added to give further support to the tiles for both shipment and installation. This added strength helps protect your investment, guaranteeing a longer life so you can watch your tiles age beautifully for years to come.
